Cady and Josh... Baby on Board
Cady and Josh are dear friends in addition to clients, and I was so happy to spend a beautiful Saturday afternoon up in Fort Collins taking these maternity photos for them. We began the morning with a Blessing Way ceremony hosted by some of the women integral to Cady's life, and the ladies decorated her belly with henna. Josh joined us later for the shoot. Goddess suns herself on rock! I admit it -- I'm really, really excited about this shot.It was a beautiful afternoon in the foothills, and probably our last amazing day of full sun. Thank you to Cady and Josh for the opportunity to play outside, and I can't wait to get the "it's time" phone call. My thoughts and prayers are Loveland bound....

Reece and Sisters

Working with repeat clients is such a treat, and this family ranks among the most vibrant, interesting, and downright wild I've had the pleasure to watch grow up. I've taken photos of older sisters Cameron and Maddy twice before, but it was finally time to focus on little Reece, the capricious and fearless baby. So that makes three gorgeous, red-headed girls for mom Melissa to chase around the park on a beautiful October afternoon.
Reece followed up our introduction with leaping into my arms for a big hug, and I turned into a puddle in the parking lot. If I could grow up again and pick a gang of imaginative, creative, brilliant girls to run with, I would choose these girls hands down. They are treasure hunters and pirates, climbers and tricksters, and probably geniuses. Seriously, they speak in complex sentences. Any girls that lay waste to their photographer, leaving her literally smeared in goose poop, leaves, and cattail fuzz, are girls I want to hang out with, again and again.

You've got to click on this sequence to see it a little bit bigger. Just to be clear, I am not above bribery. When focusing is required, introduce lollipops.
Mom and the girlsWhen, oh when, can we do this again? I need a day or two to recover from the exhaustion, but then I need another dose of my sirens. I'm waiting with bated breath for round 4....

Olivia and Family

Olivia is a baby on the move, and I had to shoot quick before she crawled right out of the frame, time and time again. But fortunately she had a high tolerance for being picked up and set back down, so we just kept scooping her up and plopping her back in the "studio." I also did baby photos of Olivia's older sister Emily a year and a half ago, so we took the opportunity to capture some shots of everybody in the growing family.

Ski Bums and Ski Bunnies... on Wheels

I would tell you where and under what circumstances I took these photos, but that would be breaking the rules of the organization that runs the event (Rule #1 and Rule #2 are both DON'T TALK ABOUT [the event]). So in lieu of all the details, I'll just share the mayhem. If you're the kind of person who simply must know what this is all about, I'm sure you're sleuth enough to figure it out.

Before & Afters - Fix 'n Flip!
IT'S DONE. The lovely, wretched, wonderful little fix 'n flip project that I undertook with four friends -- under the aptly-named company Full House, Ltd -- is finally FINISHED and on the market. Huzzah! Here are the before, during, and after shots that make the whole thing seem totally worthwhile.Click on any set of images to see an enlarged version.

The view into the house from just inside the front door. There used to be a wall with a door leading into the kitchen; that came down, and now the entire space is the living and dining room.
The view from the dining room towards the back of the house. It used to be a weird, meandering labyrinth ending at the back door, and it is now a totally renovated kitchen with brand new appliances.
Looking back into the house from the old back door. Now the door is on the side wall instead, so the view in the last shot is from the sink.
The basement stairs. We moved them back two steps so that you don't have to duck under the doorway to enter the basement.
We tore down a series of crappy additions on the back of the house and created an entirely new addition with a gabled roof.
It's been a remarkable experience, one that in the end probably was worthy of a televised reality show, and we've learned more than we ever expected. Now let's just hope the house sells! The asking price is $219,900 for this beauty, so if you're in the market for a new home... call our realtor!! :)

Soaking Wet Bride!
WEARING A WEDDING GOWN IN A LAKE? WHAT IS THIS BRIDE THINKING? Well, Tenly was thinking that there's no better way to celebrate your fifth anniversary than by trashing your dress good and proper on camera! Tenly and her hubby Kevin dunked into Wellington Lake for our Trash-the-Dress session, and as you'll see later on, so did their photographer....

That dress is good and WET. At one point we heard people on the opposite shore of the lake screaming "There's a bride in the water!" The tone was akin to "There's a fifty-foot woman!"
One of my favorites! I would love to see it alongside a portrait of their kiss from their wedding ceremony. Still in love!
We enlisted some 10 year-olds to give our bride and groom another dousing. The boys were THRILLED to oblige... I had to remind them that this was a one-time gig and not to splash just any passing bride.
My friend Ronnie took this shot of me at work. Sometimes you just have to get IN the water... even if your equipment is very, very expensive.By that last shot, I'd say Tenly's dress was good and trashed. Mission accomplished! On the drive back to Denver I think she and Kevin tossed the gown in a dumpster... beats hanging unused in a closet for the next forty years!
So who's next? You want to try mud? Rain? Paint ball?

Very AltF Hits Denver!

I had the pleasure of attending John and Dalisa Cooper's one-day photography workshop here in Denver today, and it was pretty amazing to be in the presence of the "grandfather of dress trashing." Today marked the Cooper's last stop in a month-long jaunt around the country, during which they injected photographers nationwide with their elegantly irreverent philosophy about the business. Seeing as how I feel about irreverence, I'M SO GLAD I WENT.

John was working on a conceptual image (actualizing his veryaltf logo), and I was able to catch the bride in mid-flight - I love the motion of her hair and dress.
Heather strikes a pose against John and Dalisa's RVSpeaking of dress trashing, I had an opportunity to shoot my first trash-the-dress session this July; my friend Tenly and her husband Kevin decided to celebrate their five-year anniversary by dunking Tenly's wedding gown in a lake. YES! Here's a preview of a longer blog entry to come:
Damn, that is NOT DRY!Let's hear it for summer fun amid wedding season mayhem! We all have to stay sane somehow, and as you can see below, I'm barely hanging on....
